Meet The Optometrists

Dr. Shane Cornelson was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Winnipeg. He went on to complete his Doctorate of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo, graduating in 2017 on the Dean’s Honours list.
During his last year at Waterloo, Shane completed a four-month ocular disease and therapeutics externship at OMNI Eye Specialists in Baltimore, MD. He also had the opportunity to take part in an optometric mission trip with Canadian Vision Care in Jamaica, where the team provided eye examinations and glasses to those in need. Shane finished his primary care rotation in Calgary, where he gained further training in corneal disease and specialty contact lenses.
Shane is dedicated to providing exceptional care and education to all his patients. He has a special interest in myopia control and dry eye disease, and is actively treating his patients with the newest treatment options and technologies. He is currently accepting patients of all ages and looks forward to meeting you!
Shane recently moved to Vancouver in October 2024. During his spare time, you can find him out running, biking and hiking in the summer or snowboarding and playing hockey in the winter. He enjoys visiting family and friends back home and spending time at his cabin in West Hawk Lake, MB. Shane has travelled to Austria, Barcelona, Costa Rica, Croatia, Ireland, London, Mexico, Morocco, Paris, Switzerland, Thailand and hopes to visit more countries in the future.
Born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Dr. Diana Nguyen earned her Honours Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from McMaster University before completing her Doctor of Optometry at the University of Waterloo.
Her clinical training included an externship in Smithers British Columbia, where she gained experience in acute eye emergencies, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. She also co-managed post-cataract and post-PRK surgeries with ophthalmologists.
Additional training in Brampton enhanced her expertise in advanced dry eye disease and glaucoma management, while her University of Waterloo rotation focused on myopia control and specialty contact lens fitting.
Dr. Nguyen welcomes patients of all ages and speaks Vietnamese. Dedicated to continuous learning, she stays up to date with the latest research to provide top-tier patient care. She also served as an adjunct clinical instructor, teaching fourth-year optometry students from the University of Waterloo and the Illinois College of Optometry. A respected key opinion leader in the field, she frequently lectures across Canada on various optometry topics especially complex dry eye disease.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Nguyen is passionate about volunteerism, including participating in a mission trip to Peru. In her free time, she enjoys weightlifting, hiking and training in diverse dance styles. Over the past 6 years, she has practiced in Ontario and Manitoba and is thrilled to settle in Vancouver with her husband. They love exploring BC’s stunning natural landscapes.
Dr. Pola Kalinowski was raised in Surrey, British Columbia. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Physiology at SFU before pursuing her Doctor of Optometry at Pacific University, where she graduated with distinction.
Throughout her optometry schooling, she worked as a teaching assistant in multiple clinical labs and earned the Paul Kohl award for Excellence in Pediatric Optometry. During her final year, she completed clinical training in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia, gaining experience in ocular disease management, dry eye therapy, myopia management, cataract post-operative care, and much more.
With a strong foundation in comprehensive eye care, Dr. Kalinowski remains passionate about staying current with the latest research in the field and providing the highest quality of care.
In her spare time, she enjoys hiking the local mountains, biking great distances, and recently learning how to cross country ski.
Dr. Ramsey attended the University of Alberta, Faculty of Science majoring in Biological Sciences. In 2013 he obtained his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Rosenberg School of Optometry in Texas.
Dr. Ramsey completed his first clinical externship at Gimbel Eye Center in Edmonton, focusing on the medical and surgical management of pre and post-operative care of cataract and refractive surgery.
His second clinical rotation took place in South Texas with Sharp Eye Consultants specializing in ocular pathology of geriatric patients, focusing on diseases such as Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy.
In his free time, Dr. Ramsey enjoys travelling, spending time with his wife and children.
